The First International Teachers Forum, held in Moscow at Pushkin State Institute of Russian Language, concluded on November 2. The forum brought together over 200 teachers and directors from schools where Russian language is taught throughout the world.
The forum began with a wreath-laying ceremony at the monument to Alexander Pushkin in the courtyard of the institute. Participants of the event included Pushkin Institute Rector Yuri Prokhorov, Russkiy Mir Foundation Board of Trustees Chair Lyudmila Verbitskaya and Executive Director of the Foundation Vyacheslav Nikonov.
The working session of the forum began with a plenary meeting lead by Lyudmila Verbitskaya. Other specialists making presentations included Fam Suan Mai (Vietnam), E.D. Berdnikova (Latvia), B.V. Vdovina (Kazakhstan), S. Pochekanskaya (Bulgaria) and V.A. Popova (Georgia).
At noon the official opening ceremony was held for the Russkiy Mir Auditorium at the Pushkin Institute. Speaking at the event, Vyacheslav Nikonov noted that the Foundation has now opened 60 Russian Centers and 40 Russkiy Mir Cabinets throughout the world.
During the second half of the day participants of the forum took part in three roundtable discussions dedicated to problems and prospects of the teaching of Russian language. The forum drew to a close with a panel discussion led by Rector Yuri Prokhorov.
The forum created a both friendly and working environment for the teachers and school directors to discuss topical issues and share their experiences and problems. Between the official events of the forum, they had the opportunity to become acquainted with their colleagues from other countries and continents, obtaining new literature on the teaching of Russian and discuss pressing issues in an informal setting.
