Russian New University (RosNOU) joined the Consortium of Higher Educational Institutions with the support of the Russian Law Journal

02.12.2013 15:39

On November 13, 2013 in Moscow, the presentation of the new academic journal the Russian Law Journal (in English language) was held. This journal is designed for foreign audience and is aimed at putting up western colleagues to the development of Russian legal science, as well as becoming the platform for the development of dialogue between Russian and foreign scientists.

The journal was founded by a group of employees of Moscow State University named after M. V. Lomonosov, Saint Petersburg State University, Moscow State Law Academy, National Research University - Higher School of Economics. The Editorial Board includes scientists from Harvard, Cambridge and Yale Universities.

The editorial policy of the Russian Law Journal provides for publication of articles originally written by the authors in the English language. According to Dmitry Maleshin, Chief Editor of the journal, Professor of the Law Faculty, "the publication of translated articles is a serious threat to the quality of the journal". It is rather difficult to comply with such editorial policy within a single higher educational institution. That is why the new journal aims to become the inter-university project within which scientists will get, among other things, expert advice on the standards of writing scientific papers in accordance with the requirements of Scopus, Web of Science and other systems of indexing scientific papers.

Under circumstances where the citation index becomes one of the main conditions for the increase in the rating of higher educational institution and for the growth of appraisal of scientist's activity, such international publishing platforms become of particular significance. According to Natalya Bocharova, MSU lecturer, the representative of the Russian editorial board of the journal, "if the Russian Law Journal joins the Web of Science, it will really become the gates to the quotation system for Russian scientists, since it is rather problematic to get to citation indexes in another way".

Russian New University (RosNOU) has also become a member of the Consortium of Higher Educational Institutions with the support of the journal. Vladimir Zernov, Rector of the University, stated at the meeting: "We are living in globalized world and have to play by the rules, regardless of the attitude to the ratings"; he expressed his gratitude to the founders of the journal and the willingness to promote the publication.
