Flag of NArFU visited the North Pole for the second time
Flag of the Northern (Arctic) Federal University named after M.V. Lomonosov reached the North Pole in mid-April in the hands of participants of the VII All-Russian expedition "Skiing to the North Pole".
The youth polar expedition (which included seven teenagers) reached the North Pole on April 18. Young polar explorers were accompanied by professional travelers Matvey Shparo and Boris Smolin, Presidential Commissioner for Children's Rights Pavel Astakhov. Yesterday members of the expedition met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and told about their work in the Arctic, their adventures and experiences.
The flag of NArFU had been handed over to Pavel Astakhov at his meeting with students of NArFU in March. Presidential Commissioner for Children's Rights had described the preparation and selection of participants for the upcoming Arctic expedition.
The flag of NArFU had first visited the North Pole in October 2013 in the framework of the special project of All-Russia Olympic Torch Relay. One of the torchbearers was rector of NArFU Elena Kudryashova. The world's largest nuclear powered icebreaker "50 Let Pobedy" with Olympic flame of board arrived at the North Pole on the 19th of October 2013.
