Two-headed Elbrus, the highest point of Russia and Europe, is situated on the joint of the borders of Kabardino-Balkariya and Karachaevo-Circassia. The western peak of Elbrus towers above sea level for 5642 meters, the eastern - for 5621 meters. The peaks are divided by a deep saddle. Elbrus is located at a distance of several kilometers to the north from the Greater Caucasus Mountain Range and is connected with it by a range-bridge. Ages ago Elbrus was a volcano, but lots of thousands years ago it extincted and became covered with glaciers.
The view of this snowy giant in a fair weather spellbinds. The people living at a distance of hundreds of kilometers from the mountain, fascinated by its beauty and greatness, gave it forty names in their languages. Though the mountain has forty names, all the world knows it as Elbrus. The ice giant is mantled by mysticism like by clouds. Alpinists consider this mountain the most mysterious on the planet. The most part of all mysteries and secrets on the northern slopes of Elbrus.
However, Elbrus it not only beauty; it is health as well. At its bottom there are a lot of mineral springs, giving recovery to people. Tourists from every corner of the world come to the snowy slopes of Elbrus for rest.
Pendular and seat ropeways lead to the shelter "Bochki" (barrels), which is at a height of 3750 meters. The Alpine hotel "Shelter of 11" is situated at a height of 4100 meters.
