Krasnoyarsk is the largest industrial and cultural center of Eastern Siberia, the capital of Krasnoyarsk territory, which is the second in area extent subject of Russia. It is in the center of Russia in the country between two rivers - the small river Kacha and the great Yenisei.
Unique landscapes, mountains, mighty Siberian woods and the well-known reserve "Stolby" (Pillars). This creation of the nature represents exotic rocky eminences among taiga in spurs of the East Sayan mountains. The area of the reserve is 47 000 hectares.
Today Krasnoyarsk is a modern industrial city with unique architecture; it is the capital of skilled, talented people of Siberia, one of the most beautiful cities of the country.
Since the middle of 60th of the last century the city has been a large transport junction. The three important transport lines - the Trans-Siberian railway, the highway of federal importance and the river Yenisei - pass through it.
Krasnoyarsk is called the city, which is directed towards the future. It is included in the five of Russian cities, leaders in the sphere of education. By the order of the Ministry of Education and science of the Russian Federation of November, 28th, 2006 Siberian Federal University was established in Krasnoyarsk. Krasnoyarsk State University, Krasnoyarsk State Technical University, Krasnoyarsk State Academy of Architecture and Building, State University of Non-Ferrous Metals and Gold became component parts of Siberian Federal University.
The city has rich cultural traditions. The great Russian artist Vasily Surikov, the writer Victor Astafiev, the opera singer Dmitry Khvorostovsky were born, got education and worked there.
