Novosibirsk (before 1925 - Novonikolayevsk) -is the administrative center of Novosibirsk region and Siberian Federal District, a large industrial, transport, scientific and cultural center; it is at a distance of 3303 kilometers from Moscow. The city is located on the Ob plateau, which borders upon the valley of the river Ob, near to the reservoir formed by the dam of Novosibirsk HPS (hydroelectric power station).
Novosibirsk is the largest megapolis of Siberia and one of the largest municipal formations in Russia. Its population is 1 391,9 thousand people in borders of the city (January, 1st, 2007). Novosibirsk is the third on size in Russia after Moscow и St.-Petersburg.
