Activities of the Association
All in all, the Soviet Union trained about 40 thousand highly qualified experts for Vietnam! They are now the cream of the country's scientific and technical intelligentsia with many of them holding high positions in its public, party and social life.
Among them is Secretary General of the Communist Party of Vietnam, former Chairman of the People's Assembly Nong Dyk Man, President of the SRV Chan Dyk Lyong, Prime Minister of the SRV Funh Van Khai and many high profile scientists, economic executives and cultural figures.
1983 saw the creation of a Committee for relations with the alumni of the Soviet HE institutions (renamed to the Center for Alumni Relations in 1996), under the Central Board of the Vietnam-Russia Friendship Society. The Association of the Vietnamese alumni of the HE institutions of the former USSR and the CIS countries (VINACORVUZ) started working under the Center's auspices. Since then, Academician Chan Din Long has been Chairman of the VINACORVUZ' Central Board.
The VINACORVUZ has extensive experience in holding traditional annual meetings of the Soviet (Russian) HE institutions' alumni which attract thousands. They are very grateful to the Russian higher school and its professors for their invaluable assistance in training national cadre for Vietnam.
The VINANCORVUZ' activities are well appreciated in Russia. President of the Russian Federation V. V. Putin made a welcoming speech at one such meeting held in March 2002 in Hanoi.
