Summary of Master programs in English

Development of educational programs in English language is one of the priorities of the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia. Most departments of the University are actively involved in this process.
Today there are 18 master programs in English and a program in Spanish. Students' recruitment on them started in 2010.
Master programs were developed in accordance with the international criteria of contemporary education, thus most courses are unique and implicate interdisciplinary approach.

Faculty of Science

1. Chemistry of the Environment.

Chair of General Chemistry. Program composers: Professor Olga V. Kovalchukova, Sc.D. Elena Yu. Nevskaya, senior lecturer, Ph.D
Environmental changes are a topical issue for the contemporary world, thus learning the Chemistry of Environment is getting more actual than ever.
A specialization in the "Chemistry of the Environment" provides preparation of specialists with the M.Sc degree in chemistry - experts in the field of environmental chemical and biochemical processes. The master program provides teaching at a high academic level based on interdisciplinary approach. Much attention is paid to chemical, ecological and managing aspects of Chemistry of the Environment.
Graduates of the program will master skills of practical and theoretical work, which will help them to make informed decisions on environmental issues in their professional activities including the international context.

2. Functional methods in differential equations and interdisciplinary researches.

The program grew up from the constantly growing demand for young professionals working in industry and having strong background in fundamental mathematics.
The two following directions are represented in the program - mathematical analysis and differential equations.
The objective of the program is to train experts in the juncture of analysis, differential equations, and applications. The graduates will have skills in handling the up-to-date mathematical tools and the application experience in solving practical issues.
There are unique courses among disciplines taught within this program, such as "Inverse problems of variation calculus", "Mathematical methods in medicine", "Analytical-numerical methods for the Navier-Stokes equations", "Mathematical models of glacier dynamics" and etc.

3. Theoretical and Mathematical Physics.

Chair of Theoretical Physics. Program Composer: Yuri P. Rybakov, Sc.D. (Physics and Mathematics), Professor.

The master's program is advanced training program in the field of Theoretical and Mathematical Physics. Its goal is to provide students with fundamental knowledge and latest advances in this sphere and to educate experts, who can deal with contemporary methods and theories, innovate and develop issues of theoretical and mathematical physics.
The program consists of lectures, laboratory and practical classes, students' research and practical work. Besides the theoretical aspects the master program provides learning of classical and modern mathematical physics, thus program curriculum includes such disciplines as Quantum Field Theory, General Relativity, Group Theory, Particle Physics, Nonlinear Field Models of Particles.
Graduates of the program will have competences and skills to do scientific work and to carry out practical research in Russian and foreign laboratories and institutes.

Engineering faculty

4. Innovative management.

Chair of Economics and Enterprise Management. Program composers: Prof., Dr. Alekseenko V.B, Chair of the Department, Tatiana B. Ivanova, Prof., assistant professor.

The program's aim is to form general, cultural and professional competencies in creating and managing business innovations. It is centered on innovative approaches to business creation and management, in particular, to innovations introduction to companies, which apply innovations or act in innovative spheres.
Students will study such disciplines as industrial informatics, which embraces a complex of disciplines like methods and technologies based on computer and telecommunication systems of information saving, processing and transmitting social and economic objects and settling all complicated problems in entrepreneurial activity with the purpose to develop industrial sphere.
Graduates are supposed to get deep knowledge in the sphere of system integration and business processes reengineering which forms high skills in making management's decisions and effective industrial management and can also continue their activity in the chosen area of scientific research.

5. Computational civil engineering.

Chair of Engineering Structures and Construction. Program Composers: Vera V. Galishnikova, associate professor, Ph.D (Civil Engineering), Peter Jan Pahl, Professor, Ph.D.

The Civil Engineering profession has been changed fundamentally by information and communication technologies of the past 30 years. Creativity in innovation through research and development as well as quality and economy in design, construction and life cycle management of constructed facilities today depend on the beneficial use of computers and communication facilities for the specific tasks of the civil engineering profession.
The goal of the proposed M.Sc. program is to educate a generation of civil engineers who have the scientific background and experience that are necessary for the beneficial use of computers in engineering practice and in research, and in addition to prepare some of the graduates of the program to proceed the related doctoral programs and thus to become the academic leaders of the future.

6. Oil and Gas Engineering Management.

Chair of Oil-field Geology, Mining and Oil-Gas Engineering. Program Composer: Aleksandr E. Vorob'ev, Sc.D., Professor

The master's program "Oil and Gas Engineering Management" is based on the copyrighted program "Production subsurface management", which passed approbation at the Department of Oil-field Geology, Mining and Oil-Gas Engineering Management at the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (2001- 2009).
The goal of the program is to provide contemporary knowledge, skills and competences in oil and gas enterprises complex management (international context).
The Program consists of lectures, laboratory and practical classes provided by the leading Russian (PFUR) and South-Korean professors, students' research work and practical and research trainings.
Department of Oil-field Geology, Mining and Oil-gas Engineering Management has all laboratory equipment required for educational purposes and an educational-methodological base, which provides competitiveness and high level research work of master's students.

Ecological Faculty

7. Economics of Natural Resources Management.

Chair of applied ecology. Program composers: Aleksandr P. Khaustov, Sc.D. (Geology and mineralogy), Margarita M. Redina, Ph.D in Economics, assistant professor.

The goal of the master's program is to prepare highly skilled specialists, owning theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the field of wildlife economic management.
The modern expert in economics of natural resources management has good chances of employment at the labour market, possesses a wide set professional competencies. Among them the economic estimations of natural resources quality, economic estimations of resources depending on their condition and a demand, estimation of economic damages of nature using and ecological risks in wildlife management, taxation in sphere of wildlife management, ecological accounting and reporting, and also ecological management.

8. Ecological biotechnology.

Chair of System ecology. Program Composer: Yuri P. Kozlov, professor, Sc.D. (Biology)

The program's aim is to prepare the modern highly skilled experts, using practical skills and theoretical knowledge of biotechnology and ecobiotechnology in their professional activity.
The program provides profound knowledge of foreign languages and pays great attention to the development of students' communication skills. The program curriculum includes courses that improve skills of understanding, communication, writing and reading scientific literature in a foreign language.
Graduates of his program will have good chances at the labor market due to a wide range of professional competences, skills and scientific background. These are issues of modern immunobiotechnology, cellular engineering, hybrid technologies of reception of monoclones as well as questions, connected with wide range of ecological problems.

Agricultural Faculty

9. The Real Estate Economics in Agro-Industrial Complex.

Chair of Economic Assessment and Land Cadastre. Program composers: Yuri A. Elbaev, Ph.D, assistant professor, Ekaterina P. Makarova, Ph.D in Economics

Professionalism in the sphere of the real estate economics in agro-industrial complex implicates in-depth study of various economic, legal and practical aspects.
The program provides knowledge about various issues related to operation of the main types of real estate in agro-industrial complex. Students will learn different methods of land valuation, intangible assets, machinery and equipment, securities, enterprise (business), intellectual property, as well as the peculiarities of market and legislation in the field of real estate, project management and risk management, restructuring and etc.
Within study process students will have practical training at real estate enterprises. On the completion of the course students make Master's dissertation and demonstrate their ability to write and analyze research papers and communicate logically.
The graduates are in demand by Russian and foreign consulting and evaluation companies, engineering and project companies; real estate companies; joined companies; banks, crediting organizations; investing and insurance funds; centers for economic analysis, municipal and state authorities in related fields.

10. Plant protection.

Chair of Genetics, crop production and plant protection. Program Composer: Elena N. Pakina, Ph.D (Biology)

The relevance of this program stems from the fact that contemporary problems of agronomy are closely related to various factors of ecological, economic and technological nature. Biotechnology in plant protection, in turn, helps to provide high quality production and disease-free planting material of a wide range of crops.
Particular emphasis of the program curriculum is done on such methods of plant protection, as tissue culture and plant regeneration from callus, chemical treatment.
Within this program students learn the major factors that threaten plants, their causes, as well as primary methods and theories of plant protection.

Faculty of Humanitarian and social sciences

11. Сomparative philosophy.

Chair of the History of Philosophy, Chair of Social Philosophy
Program composer: Nur S. Kirabaev, professor, Ph.D

The program is designed to give students an in-depth understanding of contemporary philosophic perspectives on the major topics, problems and trends in cross-cultural, regional and global philosophy. The program offers an integral idea of the genealogy, modern development and theoretical and methodological problems of comparative philosophy. It seeks to promote, conceptualize and critically analyze the ways and mechanisms of philosophic intercultural dialogue between Russian, European, North and South American, Arabic and other traditions.
The program pays specific attention to such areas within comparative philosophy as hermeneutics, ontology, ethics, the philosophy of history, civilizational studies, gnoseology, intercultural and transcultural philosophy, philosophy of gender, etc.
Besides the skills of scientific research on the basis of obtained knowledge the graduate of the course will gain a competence to compose analytic documents, provide better understanding of other culture, make recommendations on the improvement of intercultural communication.

Philological faculty

12. Theoretical and Applied Linguistics.

Chair of The General and Russian Linguistics.
Program composer: Elena A. Krasina, professor, Ph.D

The program envisages the deepened studies of language theory (general linguistics), the theory of contemporary linguistics and its constituents, as well as a number of applied disciplines which propose proper work with natural languages.
Finally, after mastering the program, a graduate would be able to carry out complex linguistic research both individually (post graduate studies and doctorate studies) and in a scientific-research group or laboratory or institute.
Specialists in theoretical and applied linguistics will be able to lecture basic university course, to teach philology and linguistics, as well as to work in some other sectors of economy, for example, to work in industry, where knowledge and understanding of special futures of the foreign language are needed to improve the quality and competitiveness.

13. Master of Art in Journalism.

Chair of Mass Communications.
Program Composer: Viktor V. Barabash, Sc.D. (Philology), associate professor.

Journalism shares much with the social sciences and humanities; both seek to analyze and report on the social world. Unlike those fields, however, journalism education trains students to enter a specific profession.
Rigorous program of graduate study provides the best training for a professional communicator. In an era of rapid change, both in careers and the industry, it is the best long-term investment for the student and helps improve, rather than simply perpetuate, current practices in the profession.
Students can choose one of two tracks for the Master of Arts degree (M.A. degree) in journalism: the research and theory track or the professional track.

Institute of foreign languages

14. Communication theory and international public relations (PR).

Chair of The Theory and Practice of International Languages.
Program Composer: Natalia L. Sokolova, Professor.

The aim of the program is to give students profound knowledge of the basic methodological, theoretical and experimental principles of communication process and skills in making research in various spheres of public life.
Students will acquire various arts of analysis of linguistic, psycho-linguistic, and socio-psychological aspects of interpersonal communication and mass communications, as well as computer-based techniques in linguistic studies and peculiarities of marketing, advertising, international public relations.
The program pays special attention to language characteristics and ethnocultural specific features of lexical, semantic, grammatical, pragmatic, and discursive aspects of oral/written speech, of both prepared/offhand and formal/informal speech.
Graduates of the program will be able to get a job in the leading Russian and foreign companies of different profiles, or realize their full potential, gained during studying in journalism, advertising, teaching, and several other areas.

15. Regional Studies.

Chair of The Theory and Practice of International Languages.
Program Composer: Natalia L. Sokolova, Professor.

For the last few decades such regions as, for example, East and Southeast Asia or Latin America has been growing rapidly and emerged as new leaders on the international stage. Their strengthening now makes significant adjustments to prevailing international balance of power, thus this master's program is becoming increasingly pressing.
Students will study geographical, economic, resource, political and other peculiarities of these regions that affect the change of their role in the international relations. The curriculum of the program also includes practical disciplines aimed at creating methodological framework for the regional studies, such as foreign languages, computer technologies and others.
Within this program students can choose one of the majors: Oriental studies, African studies, European studies, American studies and CIS studies.
Graduates will be able to apply their knowledge and skills in various fields - from politics and history to economics and industry.

Faculty of Law

16. International Human Rights Law.

Chair of the International Law.
Program Composer: Aslan Kh. Abashidze, Doctor of Laws, Professor.

Human rights education is the most important tool for teaching individuals about both their human rights vis-à-vis other human beings, the society and the state, and about their duties to respect the human rights of others.
The Master's Degree International Human Rights Law presents an interdisciplinary course which provides students with bachelor background, the opportunity on complex approach to deep knowledge in history of international relations on human rights, in theory of human rights and comparative perspectives on this issue.
The Master's Degree provides an international legal background for graduate study in other disciplines, dealing with human rights and in careers which incorporate human rights advocacy, including NGO, the practice of law, policy analysis, or service in governmental (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Justice) or intergovernmental entities, including UN's system of human rights protection.

Faculty of Economics

17. International Trade.

Chair of International Economic Relations.
Program composers: Nikolay P. Gusakov, Sc.D (Economics), Professor, Irina N. Belova, associate professor

This Master's program was elaborated jointly by PFUR and the National University of Science, Technology and Management of National Conservatory of Arts and Crafts (Paris, France). The main purpose of the program is to prepare highly qualified experts and senior managers in the field of international trade and economic relations.
Students study a wide range of disciplines and get profound knowledge in the field of international trade, global economy, learn the main trade dimensions of different countries and regions, as well as factors shaping the international trade, and learn to analyze and to simulate the prospective trade-economic situation at the international level.
The important feature of this program is enabling students to obtain not only the profound theoretical knowledge, but also acquire practical skills.

18. Management in international marketing.

Program Composer: Yuri N. Moseykin, Ph.D (Economics), associate professor.

The contemporary world is living in conditions of globalization and integration of all spheres of public life, especially social-economic. Growing interdependence of economies requires experts in the newly developed fields of economic management, who would be able to operate effectively at both national and international levels.
Within the program students will study under professor's supervision in accordance with their individual educational plan and get knowledge of actual problems in the international business. They will explore the main causes of the most pressing problems, acquire quantitative analytical techniques, methods of strategic market and investment planning, as well as learn international legal, social and other issues, arising in the process of economic management.
