Moscow State University of Economics, Statistics and Informatics (MESI) opened its doors for students in 1932. Carrying out its Mission, MESI has evolved into unique, geographically distributed scientific and educational complex aimed at training professionals in economics, management, statistics, information technology, law and humanities.
Nowadays MESI is a venue for more than 100 000 students studying both in Moscow and in the regional branches located all over Russia as well as in Kazakhstan, Belarus, Armenia and Latvia.
MESI provides pre-university training for school children and secondary school graduates as well as secondary vocational training programs at MESI College. Today the University offers more than 15 bachelor's and 16 master's degree programs. The graduates have an option to continue their studies at postgraduate, doctoral, and MBA programs.

One of our strategic goals is constant development of quality management system. MESI is the first Russian university that received the international certificate of conformity to ISO 9001:2000, and successfully went through the external expert examination of European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA) of conformity with the Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG).
Russian youth also value our University for its non-academic activities. MESI has its own student council, KVN club (club of cheerful and quick-witted fellows) and student theatre named KAZUS, which has been a prize-winner in many Russian and international contests. Our sports teams regularly participate in the World and European university championships and achieve remarkable results.
Foreign students are welcome
MESI has started its education programs for foreign students in 1948. Since then more than 2 000 people have graduated from university.
MESI welcomes foreign students coming within the framework of bilateral exchange agreements or intergovernmental cooperation as well as on their own initiative.
The university provides necessary support to all the international students in dealing with visa and immigration issues and assists them in getting accommodation at the student residence.
For those who would like to apply for the programs taught in Russian and need to improve their language skills, MESI offers special preparatory course with flexible duration and content.
MESI applies every effort to ensure that foreign students feel safe and comfortable. A wide range of social and cultural activities contribute to the better adaptation and help international students learn more about Russia and its traditions.
Russian language for foreigners
Much attention is paid to learning Russian by foreign students, who have come to Russia and wish to enter our university, since groups in MESI are combined. To this end, there are 1 year courses of Russian in MESI, where foreigners can learn or improve the language.
The training is held by qualified teachers who use effective methods of teaching in their work, carefully select educational material, which helps students to start speaking Russian in a short time.
At the same time, there is a program for foreign students to get acquainted with Russian culture and traditions (excursions to St. Petersburg, visiting museums in Moscow and so on).
Classes are held in the main building of MESI in groups of 6-8 people and 12-15 people for additional subjects. The first semester has 20 hours of Russian in a week, the second - 16 hours, also there are additional subjects - math, geography and supplementary classes to study the language in accordance with specialization (profile module - Economics).
Intermediate test on the knowledge of Russian is held at an elementary level of knowledge, basic level and after introductive phonetic course. Students are provided with hostel, while learning Russian during the course.

The University has its own hostel, the cost of living in a hostel is 4950 rubles per month per resident, living in a two- or three-seat room in a two-room block, which has a separate bathroom, the kitchen is on the floor.
