Far Eastern State Transport University



Far Eastern State Transport University (FESTU) is one of the most effective education & innovation centers in the Russian Far East. We train professionals for very wide range of economic sectors. Over 75 years FESTU history is inseparable from the history of Russian nation.

FESTU is among few Far Eastern higher education institutes that implement a system of continuous education. University can also offer opportunities of further education.

Nowadays FESTU offers 303 education programs of higher professional education, secondary vocational education, post-graduate studies, vocational training and further education. The amount of education services, offered by FESTU, is constantly growing. For the past 5 years FESTU opened several majors that are in demand in region: "Complex Information Securing for Automated Systems", "Oil & Gas Business" and "Fire Safety". "Customs" major was officially opened in 2013.

FESTU 15 main programs of higher professional education were acknowledged as the best in Russia according to expert survey of "The Best Education Programs in Innovation Russia" project. Another 5 programs were acclaimed by experts as the best education programs based on Federal State Education Standards. 3 Bachelor programs: "Psychology", "Power Engineering" and "Construction"; 2 Specialist Degree Programs: "Rolling Stock" (majors "Railroad Cars", "Locomotives", "Electric Rolling Stock"), Railway Traffic Support Systems (majors "Automation and Remote Control of Railway Transport", "Telecommunication Systems and Networks of Railway Transport" and "Railway Power Supply").

There are over 23000 students studying in FESTU today, with over a 1000 lecturers (60% have scientific degrees).

University implements large-scale research work aimed at complex development of the Russian Far East transport system. It combines over 30 fields of research in transport, construction, power engineering, physics, mathematics, material science, information science and many other, that are of great importance not only for railway industry, but for other industrial sectors as well. FESTU scientists contributed greatly to the development and improvement of railway industry. Their research projects are focused on maintenance and diagnostics of artificial structures, construction issues in cold climate areas in Russia (Far North lands and Far East region), environment protection, construction & maintenance of railways on permafrost soils. 

In modern environment FESTU prioritize the development of an international cooperation as the effective means of enhancing science & education, as well as the university competitive ability. Between 2008 and 2012 FESTU signed agreements with 38 new partner universities and organizations of Ukraine, China, Kazakhstan, Japan, South and North Korea.

In 2009 FESTU initiated the establishment of the International Association of Transport Universities of Asia-Pacific Countries (IASTU APC) in order to integrate science, technology and production for the development of railway transport. Current IASTU APC membership is represented with transport universities of China, South Korea, Kazakhstan, Russia, Australia, Mongolia, Uzbekistan and Ukraine. In June 2011, in Nanjing (China) during the 4th International Symposium for Railroad Universities in Europe and Asia rector of FESTU, Boris Dynkin was elected for presidency in the IASTU APC.

IASTU APC unites universities, transport organizations and research institutes to implement short-term professional development programs for Russian and foreign specialists, joint research in transport area, joint education programs. International Symposia for Railroad Universities in Europe and Asia, through observing issues of science and education cooperation between universities of different countries, international conditions of railway transport maintenance, railway transport oriented research, contributes greatly to the science progress and development of transport. 

Each year more than 250 foreign students and post-graduates study in FESTU. They arrive mostly from the countries of the Asia-Pacific Region. Russian students also have trainings in partner universities abroad (South Korea, USA, etc.). FESTU is officially authorized for testing foreign citizens in Test of Russian as a Foreign Language (TORFL).

The main priorities of the university in international area are the following: contribution to improving of education quality, diversification of education programs (including programs taught in foreign languages), developing its international scientific status and acknowledgement from global science community.

FESTU achieved many awards for accomplishments in area of education.

In 2012 FESTU once again was awarded with International Award for Transport Organizations "The Golden Chariot" as the "Leader of Transport Science and Education".

FESTU combines all components required for quality training of professionals according to modern standards.

Russian Language preparatory courses for foreign citizens in Institute of International Cooperation

  1. Russian as a foreign language for Russian universities' entrants:

    • Fall term (16 weeks): September, 16 - January, 16;
      Spring term (16 weeks): March, 1 - June, 20.

  2. Russian for specific purposes ("Russian for Economists", "Russian for Managers", "Russian for Business", "Russian for Engineers").

  3. Preparation for TORFL (TORFL 1, 2; Russian Federation Citizenship Test), short-term courses (from 2 weeks up to 2 months).

  4. Enhanced learning of Russian through culture (Russian Culture, History of Russia, Modern Social and Political Life in Russia, National Traditions, National Etiquette).
