Russian New University (RosNOU)
The Main Facts
Private (non-state) Educational Institution of Higher Professional Education 'Russian New University' (RosNOU) was founded in 1991. RosNOU has a status of a classical university.
The graduates from Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology initiated the creation of the university. Their aim was to create a new model of the university the level of teaching and development of science of which could correspond to the legendary 'Phystech' and at the same time develop liberal education.
Head of the University is one of its founders, Professor, Doctor of Science Vladimir A. Zernov, Chairman of Russian Non-governmental Academies Association.
Famous physicist, member of the Academia Europaea, Professor Sergey P. Kapitsa, Vice President of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences was a scientific adviser in Russian New University from 1999 to 2012.
The university has twenty-one scientific schools, six scientific works are patented, it also has its own technology park. All-Russian Scientific and Practical Conference 'Civilization of Knowledge' takes place here every year. RosNOU publishes such scientific magazines as Vestnik RosNOU, Spetstechnika i Svyaz and also English scientific magazine Cardiometry.
Twenty five thousand people have been trained at the university, 1,100 of them are foreign students.
In 2012 and 2013 RosNOU was included in Top 100 best universities of Russia according to the data given by the Rating Agency Expert RA.
RosNOU is regarded an effective university according to the results of the annual monitoring conducted by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.

The students are trained in compliance with sixty syllabuses of higher vocational education at the following departments:
- Department of Information Systems and Computer Technology;
- Department of Humanities;
- Department of Business-technologies in Tourist and Travel Industry;
- Finance, Management and Economics Department;
- Department of Law;
- Department of Psychology and Pedagogics;
- Department of Industrial Specialization.
Foreign students can receive a pre-university training at the Foundation Studies Department.
The applicants can apply for the forty four bachelor, master and specialist programs. Sixteen programs abolished after Russia joined the Bologna system can also be applied for by transferring.
RosNOU gives applicants and students an opportunity to choose the most suitable form of studying: full-time course, part-time course and extramural course.
Within the part-time education the student can choose the weekend course. The extramural education is carried out both in traditional form and distantly. RosNOU has the License of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation to carry out distance education in full.
Eighteen branches and twenty five territorial centers of the access to the electronic informational and educational resources represent the university in the Russian regions.
RosNOU College and the colleges of the RosNOU branches give an opportunity to receive secondary professional education.
Admission requirements at RosNOU
Foreign students who want to study in Russia are always welcome in our university. The university offers a wide range of educational programs, convenient infrastructure, participation in social and student life, opportunities of personal and professional development. Besides, the university carries out special programs for foreign trainees and individual students.
Since 2008 RosNOU has been issuing the enclosure to Diploma, which follows the European model (The Diploma Supplement) with the use of credit system of rating of educational programs. This increases the academic mobility and opportunities of successful job placement for the graduates in Russia and abroad.
RosNOU maintains close scientific, educational and business contacts with a number of leading universities in Europe, Asia and Latin America. At present thirty-five foreign universities and companies cooperate with RosNOU.
RosNOU Center for International Cooperation is responsible for organization and development of all directions of university international educational activity. It includes four departments:
RosNOU Foundation Studies Faculty for Foreign Nationals
RosNOU Foundation Studies Faculty for Foreign Nationals trains foreign students, trainees, postgraduates, attendees from Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Brazil, China, Ecuador, Georgia, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Moldova, Montenegro, Morocco, Nepal, Poland, Portugal, Serbia, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and other countries.
The teachers of the Foundation Studies Faculty have many years' experience of working with foreigners and teaching Russian as a Foreign Language. The students learn the Russian language with the help of modern lexical and grammar books where the combination of the effective, time proved and the latest methods are used.
Department for Work with International Students
The Department keeps the statistics of foreign students, draws up the documents fixed by the Law which defines the Legal Status of Foreign Citizens in the Russian Federation. These documents are necessary for receiving the invitation to study, student visa and migration registration.
Department of International Academic Mobility Development
The student exchanges and the exchanges of teaching staff give the opportunity for professional development in different spheres of activity including foreign languages, economics, tourism and law.
Department of International Educational Programs and Projects
International programs in RosNOU are focused on development of bilateral and multilateral contacts and projects.
International Affairs & Academic Mobility Directorate>
RosNOU has its own dormitory and its own Endoecology Medical Centre. The university also has the Student Union, Students' Scientific Society, Theatre and Music Schools, Sports Clubs. RosNOU KVN League is among the leading university leagues of Moscow. Every year the university organizes 'Miss RosNOU' and 'Mr RosNOU' contests, the Festival of Arts, the Nations' Friendship Day, the intellectual game 'What? Where? When?', the initiation of the first-year students, the dance festival and other events.
The students of RosNOU take part in sports competitions for the championship of the university, in the competitions of Spartakiade of Moscow universities, in Moscow student games. RosNOU freestyle wrestling, Greco-Roman, karate, taekwondo, table tennis, swimming, darts, arm wrestling, athletics and cross running teams win the first places in Moscow interuniversity competitions.
RosNOU student life
RosNOU is situated in the centre of Moscow in Basmanny District where the German Quarter was previously located. Many universities and research institutes are situated nearby. More than 30 cathedrals and churches, Lefortovo Palace, Sovremennik Theatre, the Centre for Contemporary Art 'Gogol-Centre', Vladimir Mayakovsky Museum are situated in this district.
The building of the university, which is situated in Radio Street, 22, has a unique history. It is associated with the name of the greatest engineer and aircraft designer Andrei Nikolayevich Tupolev. It was here in these buildings in Radio Street built in 1925 -1934 in late Constructivism style that Central Design Bureau was located.
